“Let Them Eat Cake”

First birthday sessions are always interesting and always a little different depending on the child. You never know what to expect. Sometimes, the child can walk, and some are just very close to it. Sometimes, they are crawling all over the place and won’t stay still for one second. Some LOVE their birthday cake, and others cry at the sight of it. It is quite humorous to photograph but can be tiring for the photographer and the parent or parents of the child. My advice, wear clothes you don’t mind getting covered in icing. It always happens. Relax, I will get the shots. Focus on this very important milestone in your child’s life that only happens once!

For those of you who choose an indoor session, I am currently using an in-home studio with the hopes of soon having something separate. But, honestly, most of my photography is done outdoors, and that’s the way I prefer it. So, I have decided I am not in a huge rush. I photograph with all natural light, therefore, if it is pouring rain outside, chances are we will reschedule your session. Here are a few “behind the scenes” shots from this last session.

Honestly, I do whatever it takes to get the shot. Mom and Dad are usually a HUGE help, and for some reason, kids are drawn to my husband as well. On this particular day, he was home for lunch. So, he just jumped right on the bandwagon to get this beautiful child to laugh! She is gorgeous whether she is laughing or just looking at the camera anyway.

First birthday sessions are unpredictable but memorable. They may not turn out as you had pictured in your mind, but I promise the result is always priceless.

Miss Julia turns 1 in February. She has been my client for most of 2016 and now starting off with me in 2017. I hope to photograph her more in the future….she comes from such a sweet family, and her parents are head over heels in love with this doll baby!

Speaking of babies….sometimes, you get a surprise at a session…

Not only is Miss Julia so happy that she is turning 1, but she is also even more excited to share with you that she is going to be a BIG SISTER! Congratulations to the Souza family on their upcoming new addition!!!
